How to play New York Lotto in New-York?

There are currently a wealth of different lotteries operating across the United States, with almost every state having their own lottery alongside a number of nationwide lotteries with large jackpots tempting millions of players to join in each week.

However lotteries weren't always so popular in the US, with lotteries in the late 1800's, originally set up by the government to help fund schools, roads and other public services, being denounced by many in the country, particularly religious groups.

With lottery-bashing becoming increasingly popular, many politicians decided to include lottery bans in their state mandates, with only Delaware and Louisiana allowing lotteries to be ran in-state by 1890.

This crack down on lotteries lasted until the early 1900's when state sponsored lotteries began to operate, starting with the first US lottery in Puerto Rico in 1934, which was followed thirty years later by the New Hampshire state lottery. As the lottery grew larger several other prominent states set up lotteries, including New York which set up the New York Lotto.

During the 20th century a lottery was set up in New York to fund the development of infrastructure, manufacturing and churches, but the modern version of the NY Lottery, established in 1966, after a change to the state mandate, saw funds from the New York Lotto go exclusively to supporting education services within the state.

The aim of providing funds for the state education system has been successful, with the NY Lottery generating almost $34 billion in education revenue. The high earnings haven't come without criticism, however, with many bemoaning the fact the New York Lotto has the lowest payout of any state lottery at 40% of revenue.

Alongside the traditional lottery draws, the NY Lottery offers a host of other gambling options, with instant plays scratch cards and the recent introduction of video lottery machines located at several locations throughout the state.

Answer Anyone wishing to partake in the NY Lottery must be at least 18 years of age. Some games do require players to be older, most notably the video lottery and instant win games, which players must be 21 to play.
